Kipuka Puaulu Bird Park is home to numerous Big Island birds, like the Khalij Pheasant. Picnics, barbecues, plus a 30-minute stroll along a 1-mile trail are what makes it a great place for laid-back family outings. Crater Rim Drive is an 11-mile road along the Kilauea Calderan known for its terrific views and hiking opportunities. It would be best to check with the ranger station before coming. Chain of Craters Road is an 18-mile road that has an elevation of 4,000 ft above the sea level and is filled with craters of all shapes and sizes, lava flows, petroglyphs, and, possibly, active lava. Some other interesting finds are great hikes, breathtaking vistas, and the opportunity to see 'Madame Pele' erupting. Kilauea Iki Trail is about a four-mile loop that takes 2-3 hours. A portion of Crater Rim Trail is a jungle populated with flowering ohia trees and graceful ferns. Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is home to Kilauea Volcano, the most active volcano in the world.
